On November 2, CompTIA and Women in International Trade (WIIT) partnered on a well-attended Capitol Hill program on priority issues on the digital trade agenda. Congressman Dave Reichert, Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, opened the program, which included a government panel on the U.S. role in the digital economy and a private sector panel discussing challenges and opportunities for technology in trade.

The Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act (PITFA) H.R. 235, is scheduled to be addressed by the House of Representative on Tuesday, June 9. Currently, the Internet Tax Freedom Act is set to expire on October 1, 2015, as extended by the “Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015,” enacted in December 2014. The original legislation banning Internet access taxes was first enacted in 1998, and since then has been extended multiple times, each time with overwhelming bipartisan support.

Although Florida’s Legislature adjourned its annual session, it failed to pass a budget, and returned for a Special Session June 1 through June 20, 2015. The agenda for the special session will include budget and conforming bills, health care reform legislative priorities and tax relief. The Legislature must pass a balanced budget by June 30th.

Since 2007, almost 9,000 companies have used the Export-Import Bank (“Ex-Im”) to finance export sales, including almost 6,000 small businesses. In 2014, Ex-Im made over 3,7000 authorizations and more than 3000-or nearly 90 percent-directly served U.S. small businesses.
